FAQs

It states that smell is regarded as the characteristic quality (guṇa) of a composite/aggregated element, aligning with classical element-theory where earth is associated with gandha.

Tanmātra refers to a subtle essence (e.g., smell as a subtle principle) from which a corresponding gross feature is understood; the verse says each is known by its originating subtle element.

It is primarily philosophical/analytic, using a Sāṅkhya-like framework of qualities and subtle elements rather than narrating devotion or ritual.
