The Exposition of the Maheśa Mantra
Mahēśa-mantra-prakāśana
प्रतिष्ठा कथिता पश्चात्तृतीया स्यात्प्रचोदयात् । निवृत्तिस्तत्परा सर्वा प्रणवाद्या नमोन्विता ॥ ६९ ॥
pratiṣṭhā kathitā paścāttṛtīyā syātpracodayāt | nivṛttistatparā sarvā praṇavādyā namonvitā || 69 ||
Sesudah diterangkan upacara peneguhan (pratiṣṭhā), rumusan yang ketiga hendaklah digunakan sebagai “pracodayāt” (yang mendorong). Segala nivṛtti—pengunduran dari keterikatan dunia—berpusat pada Yang Tertinggi itu; ia bermula dengan praṇava (Oṃ) dan disertai “namaḥ”.

It links ritual correctness (pratiṣṭhā and prescribed recitation) with the inner aim of nivṛtti—turning the mind away from worldly momentum and toward the Supreme, using Oṁ and namaḥ as the devotional frame.
By prescribing practice “beginning with praṇava and accompanied by namaḥ,” it emphasizes reverent surrender and remembrance—core bhakti attitudes—while directing all practice to be tat-parā (centered on the Supreme).
It reflects mantra-vidhi and ritual sequencing—how specific steps/formulas (like the ‘third’ recitation and the pracodayāt function) are applied after pratiṣṭhā, aligning technical procedure with the goal of liberation.
