The Account of Hanumān
परिहासमथो कर्तुमियेष परमेश्वरः । पश्य विष्णो हनूमन्तं कथं भुंक्ते स वानरः ॥ १५५ ॥
parihāsamatho kartumiyeṣa parameśvaraḥ | paśya viṣṇo hanūmantaṃ kathaṃ bhuṃkte sa vānaraḥ || 155 ||
Kemudian Tuhan Yang Maha Tinggi, berkehendak membuat gurauan suci (līlā), bersabda: “Wahai Viṣṇu, lihatlah Hanūmān—bagaimana si kera itu makan!”
Parameśvara (the Supreme Lord) addressing Viṣṇu
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: hasya
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It highlights īśvara-līlā—God’s playful, instructive humor—drawing attention to Hanūmān, a paradigmatic devotee whose ordinary acts are worthy of contemplation when centered on Viṣṇu.
By spotlighting Hanūmān, it implies that true bhakti sanctifies daily actions; even eating becomes an occasion of disciplined, God-oriented living, and the Lord’s attention to the devotee signals the devotee’s exalted status.
While not a direct Vedāṅga instruction, it models careful observation and contextual meaning—skills central to Vyākaraṇa/Nirukta-based reading of śāstra—showing how narrative cues guide interpretation.
