Narada Purana — Purva Bhaga, Shloka 18

The Narration of the Trayodaśī Vow Observed Throughout the Twelve Months

दद्याद्विप्राय सत्कृत्य व्रतसांगत्वसिद्धये । ज्येष्ठशुक्लत्रयोदश्यां दौर्भाग्यशमनं व्रतम् ॥ १८ ॥

dadyādviprāya satkṛtya vratasāṃgatvasiddhaye | jyeṣṭhaśuklatrayodaśyāṃ daurbhāgyaśamanaṃ vratam || 18 ||

Bagi menyempurnakan nazar ini dengan segala tata-caranya, hendaklah seseorang memberi sedekah dengan penuh hormat kepada seorang brāhmaṇa yang berilmu. Nazar yang dilakukan pada Trayodaśī paruh terang bulan Jyeṣṭha ini disebut ‘Daurbhāgya-śamana’, yakni upacara untuk meredakan nasib malang.
