The Exposition of the Pratipadā Vrata for the Twelve Months
Sanatkumara (addressing Narada)
Vrata: Pratipad-vratas of the twelve months (series; individual names not given in this verse)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It concludes a set of monthly Pratipad-vratas by stating their twofold fruit: bhukti (well-being in life) and mukti (liberation), showing how disciplined observance can integrate worldly duty with the ultimate goal.
By framing vrata as a means to both prosperity and liberation, the verse supports the Purāṇic model where devotional, time-sacred observances (tithi-based practices) purify the devotee and orient life toward moksha.
It highlights calendrical ritual timing—observance on Pratipad (a lunar tithi) across the twelve months—connecting practice to Jyotiṣa-style time-reckoning used for vrata and festival discipline.
