The Exposition of the Pratipadā Vrata for the Twelve Months
Narada (in instruction to a sage addressed as munīśvara, within the dāna-vidhi context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It teaches that vāyana-dāna is a high-merit act that pleases the deities, and that charity becomes spiritually efficacious when performed with clear intention (saṅkalpa) and offered to a qualified brāhmaṇa.
By emphasizing devatā-prīti (pleasing the divine), it frames ritual giving as an act of reverent service—devotional intention expressed through dharmic generosity.
The verse highlights the ritual principle of saṅkalpa—formal intentional declaration used in karmakāṇḍa practice—showing how correct resolve and proper recipient (vipra) are key components of effective dāna.
