Suta (Anukramanika narrator summarizing contents)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It frames dharma as causally effective: charity and allied merits yield definite results, and one’s post-death passage is governed by rites (mantras/ūrdhva-dehika) and karma, culminating in an account of the journey toward Yama’s domain.
Indirectly: by contrasting karma-based outcomes (dāna and post-death rites) with the broader Purāṇic aim of liberation, it prepares the reader to see that meritorious works support spiritual progress, while higher devotion and right knowledge ultimately transcend fear of Yama’s path.
Ritual application of mantras for ūrdhva-dehika/antyeṣṭi-related observances is implied—i.e., mantra usage and procedural correctness (kalpa-oriented ritual discipline), tied to the doctrine of karma-phala.
