Tīrtha-yātrā: Prayāga-saṅgama and Gayaśiras—Rājarṣi Gaya’s Mahāyajña
तव वीर्यपरित्राता: शुद्धास्तीर्थपरिप्लुता: । भवेम धूतपाप्मानस्तीर्थसंदर्शनान्नप,“नरेश्वरर आपके बल-पराक्रमसे सुरक्षित हो हम भी तीर्थोमें स्नान करके शुद्ध हो जायँगे और उन तीर्थोंके दर्शनसे हमारे सब पाप धुल जायूँगे
tava vīryaparitrātāḥ śuddhās tīrthapariplutāḥ | bhavema dhūtapāpmānas tīrthasaṃdarśanān nṛpa ||
“Dilindungi oleh keberanian tuanku, wahai raja, kami akan mandi di tīrtha-tīrtha suci lalu menjadi bersih; dan dengan memandang tempat-tempat suci itu sahaja, segala dosa kami akan tersapu pergi.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse affirms a dharmic ideal: righteous protection by a capable ruler enables others to pursue sacred duties such as pilgrimage, and contact with tīrthas—through bathing and even mere darśana—is portrayed as a means of moral purification (removal of pāpa).
The speaker expresses confidence that, under the king’s protection and prowess, they will be able to undertake a tīrtha-journey, bathe at holy sites, and thereby become purified, with sins washed away through visiting and seeing those places.
