Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma as compassionate responsibility: when confronted with a helpless life discovered by chance, one’s ethical response—care, protection, and acceptance of duty—becomes decisive.

Adhiratha retrieves a casket from the water, opens it using tools, and finds a child inside—setting up the episode of a foundling whose future will be shaped by how others respond to him.
