Arrival of Mārkaṇḍeya and Counsel on Truth-Vows

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights an ideal social-ethical balance: kṣatriya strength (symbolized by the bowstring’s twang) should operate in harmony with brahmanical wisdom and sacred discipline (symbolized by Vedic chanting). When power is guided by knowledge and restraint, it becomes more radiant and legitimate.

The scene evokes an atmosphere where martial readiness and religious recitation occur together. The combined sounds—bows being strung and mantras being chanted—create the impression of a purposeful alliance between warriors and Brahmins, suggesting an organized, dharma-oriented preparation.
