Satya-lakṣaṇa (The Characteristics and Forms of Truth) | सत्यलक्षणम्
असारक्नापि दुर्मेधा: केवलं बहु भाषसे । क्रोधादिभिरवच्छन्नो मिथ्या वदसि शाल्मले,शाल्मले! तुम सारहीन और दुर्बुद्धि हो, केवल बहुत बातें बनाते हो तथा क्रोध आदि दुर्गुणोंसे प्रेरित होकर झूठ बोलते हो
asāraknāpi durmedhāḥ kevalaṃ bahu bhāṣase | krodhādibhir avacchanno mithyā vadasi śālmale śālmale ||
Nārada berkata: “Engkau kosong tanpa inti dan berakal tumpul; engkau hanya bercakap panjang lebar. Diselubungi kemarahan dan cela yang lain, engkau menuturkan dusta, wahai Śālmali—wahai Śālmali!”
नारद उवाच
Speech should be grounded in substance and truth; when anger and related vices obscure the mind, one falls into falsehood and empty talk, which is ethically blameworthy.
Nārada directly admonishes Śālmali, accusing him of being foolish, speaking excessively without real substance, and lying under the influence of anger and other defects.
