The Dove’s Lament and Celestial Reunion
The verse frames a moral exemplum: sincere attentiveness and service (śuśrūṣā) make one fit to receive instruction, and the ensuing story of the dove is presented as a model of dharmic conduct leading to siddhi—true success understood as ethical and spiritual attainment.
Bhīṣma says that Bhārgava (Paraśurāma), seeing his listener eager to hear, begins narrating a specific tale—how a dove achieved siddhi—addressing the king as the audience for this instructive story.
