Śalya’s Consecration as Senāpati and Kṛṣṇa’s Counsel to Yudhiṣṭhira (शल्यस्य सेनापत्यभिषेकः)

स्वज्रं प्रच्छन्नशिरसं कम्बुग्रीवं प्रियंवदम्‌ । व्याकोशपपक्राक्षं व्याप्रास्यं मेरुगौरवम्‌

svajaṃraṃ pracchannaśirasaṃ kambugrīvaṃ priyaṃvadam | vyākośapapakrakṣaṃ vyāprāsyaṃ merugauravam

Sañjaya berkata: “(Dia melihat) seorang yang kepalanya terlindung, lehernya laksana cangkerang sangkha, dan tutur katanya manis; matanya terbuka luas dan gelisah, mulutnya ternganga seolah-olah sedang mengerah tenaga dengan garang—memikul berat dan kewibawaan seperti Gunung Meru.” Dalam naratif peperangan, gambaran jasmani yang ditinggikan begini berfungsi sebagai isyarat etika: ia membingkai kehadiran yang menggerunkan serta rasa ngeri yang ditimbulkannya, mengingatkan pendengar bahawa kuasa lahiriah dan kengerian adalah sebahagian daripada tekanan moral di medan tempur, tempat ketajaman budi dan keteguhan hati diuji di hadapan kekuatan yang melimpah-ruah.
