Shloka 39

शल्यस्य सेनापत्याभ्युपगमः | Śalya’s Acceptance of Command

“निश्चय ही युद्धमें प्राण देनेवालोंकी ओर अप्सराएँ बड़ी प्रसन्नतासे निहारा करती हैं। पितृगण उन्हें अवश्य ही देवताओं-की सभामें सम्मानित होते देखते हैं। वे स्वर्गमें अप्सराओंसे घिरकर आनन्दित होते देखे जाते हैं ।।

sañjaya uvāca |

niścaya hi yuddhe prāṇa-dāyināṁ prati apsarasaḥ prītāḥ samantān nirīkṣante |

pitaras tān niyataṁ devānāṁ sabhāyāṁ satkṛtān paśyanti |

te svarge apsarobhiḥ parivṛtā ānanditā dṛśyante ||

panthānam amarair yāntaṁ śūraiś caivānivartibhiḥ |

api tat-saṅgataṁ mārgaṁ vayam adhyāruhemahi |

vṛddha-pitāmahaṁ buddhimantam ācārya-droṇam jayadratham karṇam duḥśāsanaṁ ca saha ||

Sañjaya berkata: “Sesungguhnya, para Apsara memandang dengan sukacita besar kepada mereka yang menyerahkan nyawa di medan perang. Para Leluhur pasti melihat mereka dimuliakan dalam sidang para dewa. Di syurga mereka terlihat bersukaria, dikelilingi Apsara. Di sepanjang jalan yang dilalui para abadi—dan para wira teguh yang tidak pernah berpaling—adakah kita juga kini akan menaiki jalan yang sama, bersama datuk tua itu, guru bijaksana Droṇa, Jayadratha, Karṇa, dan Duḥśāsana?”
