Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic speech as a moral tool: consolation should be offered through words that are gentle (sāmnā), truthful (satyena), and appropriate or well-reasoned (yuktena), so that grief is eased without deception or harshness.

In the wake of battlefield losses, Kṛṣṇa is urged to reassure the grieving women—specifically the daughter-in-law and her young companions—so that they may become free from sorrow through calm, truthful, and fitting counsel.
