Educational Q&A

When one loses moral grounding and also suffers worldly failure, the mind collapses into fear and cannot sustain dhṛti (inner steadiness). The verse highlights the ethical cost of adharma: it undermines both worldly confidence and hope for the hereafter.

Sañjaya describes warriors whose situation has become doubly ruinous: they face defeat in the present battle and dread the consequences beyond death. Overwhelmed by these two pressures, they cannot hold onto courage or composure.
