Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s appraisal of Vāsudeva’s deeds
सत्यं धृतिश्व शौर्य च ब्रह्म॒चर्य च केवलम् । सर्वाणि युयुधाने5स्मिन् नित्यानि पुरुषर्षभे,जिन्होंने सौवीरराजकी विशाल सेनाको मथकर उनकी सर्वांगसुन्दरी कमनीय कन्या भोजाको अपनी रानी बनानेके लिये हर लिया था, उन पुरुषशिरोमणि सात्यकिमें सत्य, धैर्य, शौर्य और विशुद्ध ब्रह्मचर्य आदि सारे सदगुण सदा विद्यमान रहते हैं
satyaṁ dhṛtiś ca śauryaṁ ca brahmacaryaṁ ca kevalam | sarvāṇi yuyudhāne 'smin nityāni puruṣarṣabhe ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Dalam lembu jantan antara manusia ini, Yuyudhāna (Sātyaki), kebenaran, keteguhan hati, kepahlawanan, dan brahmacarya yang suci sentiasa hadir—sesungguhnya segala kebajikan ini tetap bersemayam dalam dirinya.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse presents an ethical ideal for a warrior: martial excellence should be grounded in inner virtues—truthfulness, steadfastness, valor, and disciplined self-restraint—so that power is governed by dharma rather than impulse.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana praises Yuyudhāna (Sātyaki), highlighting that multiple noble qualities are permanently established in him, thereby framing him as a dharmic exemplar within the war narrative.
