निवारयामास शरै: सम॑ संनतपर्वभि: । सत्यपराक्रमी भीष्म युद्धस्थलमें अन्य सब राजाओं-द्वारा छोड़े हुए बाणोंका झुकी हुई गाँठवाले अपने बाणोंद्वारा तुरंत ही निवारण कर देते थे || ४८ ह ।।

nivārayāmāsa śaraiḥ samaṃ sannatapārva-bhiḥ |
śikhaṇḍī tu raṇe bāṇān yān mumoca mahārathaḥ ||
Sañjaya berkata: Dengan anak panahnya sendiri—yang beruas bengkok—Bhishma, teguh dalam keberanian sejati, segera menangkis dan melumpuhkan hujan panah yang dilepaskan oleh raja-raja lain di medan perang. Sementara itu, Shikhandi, sang maharathi, melepaskan anak-anak panah yang ditembakkannya dalam pertempuran.
