Śrāddha-vidhi for Pitṛs: Invitations, Purity, Offerings, and Conduct

FAQs

Indirectly: it emphasizes that outer rites like Śrāddha must be aligned with dharma (right conduct such as hospitality). In Kurma Purana’s broader teaching, ethical alignment is a prerequisite for inner purification that supports knowledge of the Self.

No direct yogic technique is taught in this verse; instead it lays the dharmic groundwork—self-discipline, reverence, and proper conduct—considered supportive of higher sādhana (including Pāśupata-oriented and Ishvara-centered practices taught elsewhere in the Kurma Purana).

It does not explicitly discuss Śiva–Viṣṇu unity; it focuses on Śrāddha-dharma. In the Kurma Purana’s synthesis, such dharmic observance is part of the shared sacred order upheld by the one Supreme Lord worshipped through Śaiva and Vaiṣṇava forms.
