Chapter 92 — प्रतिष्ठाविधिकथनम्
Narration of the Consecration / Installation Procedure
Lord Agni (in instruction to sage Vasiṣṭha, Agni Purana’s standard dialogue frame)
Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Vastu","secondary_vidya":"Samanya","practical_application":"Site-testing (bhū-parīkṣā) for selecting an auspicious plot by directional preference and the soil-surplus pit test before construction.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Bhū-parīkṣā: Hasta-khāta mṛd-vṛddhi (soil-surplus) test and eastern priority","lookup_keywords":["bhumi-pariksha","hasta-khata","mrd-vrddhi","purva-dik","vastu-nirnaya"],"quick_summary":"Prefer the eastern sector among east/NE/north. A plot is deemed excellent if, after digging a one-hasta pit and refilling it, soil remains surplus—signifying stable, life-supporting ground."}
Concept: Reading subtle signs in material nature (bhūmi-lakṣaṇa) to align human works with cosmic order (dik-krama).
Application: Use standardized tests and directional hierarchy to reduce structural risk and ritual inauspiciousness before laying foundations.
Khanda Section: Vastu-shastra (Directional and site-testing rules for excavation/plots)
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A vāstu-expert measures a one-hasta pit on a plot, digs it, refills it, and shows surplus soil while indicating the eastern direction as foremost.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala temple mural style, earthy ochres and greens, a vāstu-ācārya with measuring rod beside a square pit, assistants refilling soil, a stylized sun in the east, palm trees, flat iconic composition","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, gold-leaf highlights on the eastern sun-disc and ritual implements, a dignified guru pointing east, the pit and soil mound rendered with decorative borders, temple-like framing","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting style, fine linework showing measurement (hasta) and the pit-test sequence, labeled directions on the ground grid, calm instructional tableau","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, detailed landscape of a construction site, surveyor with staff, workers digging/refilling, subtle compass-like directional markers, delicate shading and architectural hints"}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"instructional","suggested_raga":"Bhairav","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: pūrveśottarasarvatra = pūrva + īśa + uttara + sarvatra (compound); caiṣām = ca + eṣām; ākhāte hāstike taken as two locatives qualifying the locus; mṛdadhikā = mṛt + adhikā (tatpuruṣa).
Related Themes: Agni Purana 92 (Vāstu-bhūmi-parīkṣā and śodhana context)
It teaches a Vāstu soil-and-site test: dig a one-hasta pit and judge the site by whether the refilled soil shows a surplus, with special emphasis on the eastern (and related) directions.
It shows the text’s practical, technical coverage beyond mythology—preserving applied Vāstu-śāstra procedures (directional hierarchy and empirical soil testing) used for construction and sacred architecture.
Choosing an auspicious, directionally favored site is treated as supporting purity, stability, and prosperity of a dwelling or temple, thereby aligning human activity with dharmic order and beneficial results.
