Pañcāṅga-Rudra-vidhāna

The Fivefold Rudra Rite

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Mantra","entry_title":"Trailokya-mohana Viṣṇu/Narasiṃha mantra for viṣa-vyādhi-nāśa","lookup_keywords":["trailokya-mohana","iṃ śrīṃ hrīṃ hrauṃ hūṃ","Viṣṇu","Narasiṃha","viṣa-vyādhi"],"quick_summary":"Presents a protective mantra with bījas and ‘trailokya-mohana’ epithet, specifying metre and deity; it is applied for destroying poison/disease and subduing hostile forces, with Narasiṃha emphasized for viṣa-vyādhi-vināśa."}

Concept: Mantra efficacy is framed through chandas, devatā, and bīja; correct identification (including liṅga/devatā indication) is part of valid prayoga.

Application: For rakṣā rites: select the stated metre/devatā, perform japa with focused intention on viṣa-vyādhi-śamana and protection from hostile forces.

FAQs

It teaches a protective-healing mantra procedure: identifying the mantra’s metre (Triṣṭubh/Anuṣṭubh), assigning the presiding deity (Viṣṇu/Narasiṃha), and using bīja-syllables for subjugation (trailokya-mohana) and for alleviating/destroying poison and disease (viṣa-vyādhi).

It combines multiple technical layers—mantra-śāstra (bījas), chandas (metre specification), devatā-viniyoga (deity assignment), and practical therapeutic aims (poison/disease control)—showing how the Agni Purāṇa catalogs applied ritual-healing knowledge alongside theology.

The instruction frames healing and protection as a dharmic act: invoking Viṣṇu/Narasiṃha through disciplined mantra-use is presented as a purificatory, protective means that counters harm (poison, disease, enemies) while aligning the practitioner with divine guardianship.
