शून्यं त्वासीत् तत्र शब्दस्तु खं च तस्माद् वायुस् तत एवाऽनु तेजः । तस्माद् आपस् तत एवाऽनु देवि मया सृष्टा भवती भूतधात्री ॥ २.९ ॥

śūnyaṃ tv āsīt tatra śabdas tu khaṃ ca tasmād vāyus tata evānu tejaḥ | tasmād āpas tata evānu devi mayā sṛṣṭā bhavatī bhūtadhātrī || 2.9 ||

आदि तेथे शून्य होते; त्यातून शब्द व आकाश प्रकट झाले. त्यापासून वायू उत्पन्न झाला आणि त्यानंतर तेज (अग्नी) प्रकट झाले. त्यापासून आप (जल) उत्पन्न झाले; आणि मग, हे देवी, मी तुला—भूतधात्री, सर्व प्राण्यांची धारक—सृष्टीत आणले।
