पापं कुत्सितमित्याहुस्तस्य सन्तापकारिणः । अष्ट चैवं मतास्तस्मात्कुतपा इति विश्रुताः
pāpaṃ kutsitamityāhustasya santāpakāriṇaḥ | aṣṭa caivaṃ matāstasmātkutapā iti viśrutāḥ
पापाला ‘कुत्सित’ असे म्हणतात—जे निंद्य व संताप देणारे आहे. म्हणून ही आठ ‘कुतप’ अशी मानली जातात व त्या नावाने प्रसिद्ध आहेत.
