ततः स्वजानुमात्रेण संप्राप्तं पृथिवीतले । ततो विष्णुपदी गंगा प्रसिद्धिमगमत्क्षितौ
tataḥ svajānumātreṇa saṃprāptaṃ pṛthivītale | tato viṣṇupadī gaṃgā prasiddhimagamatkṣitau
नंतर ती त्यांच्या स्वतःच्या गुडघ्याच्या मापापर्यंत उतरून पृथ्वीवर आली। त्या घटनेपासून गंगा पृथ्वीवर ‘विष्णुपदी’—विष्णूच्या चरणातून उत्पन्न—म्हणून प्रसिद्ध झाली।
