yatkiṃcidvihitaṃ pāpaṃ tvayā pūrvaṃmayā hi tat | gṛhītaṃ mūrtirūpaṃ tattatastvaṃ pāpavarjitaḥ | iti pratigrahamaṃtraḥ
Brāhmaṇa (recipient) speaking to the donor (King) within ritual context
Type: kshetra
Listener: rājan (king)
Scene: The brāhmaṇa accepts the golden effigy with both hands; a subtle visual metaphor shows a dark mist (pāpa) moving from donor to the effigy/recipient, while the donor appears brightened—symbolizing pāpa-varjana.
In Purāṇic ritual logic, properly received dāna can effect moral purification, symbolically transferring sin away from the donor.
The mantra belongs to the Nāgarakhaṇḍa Tīrthamāhātmya setting; this verse focuses on the acceptance-mantra rather than a named tīrtha.
It gives the pratigraha-mantra spoken by the recipient at the moment of accepting the gift, declaring the donor purified.
