tasmāddīpapradānena prīyatāṃ me janārdanaḥ | ayaṃ paurāṇajo maṃtro vedarcena samanvitaḥ | dīpapradāne sakalaḥ prayukto nāśayedagham
Contextual: Brahmā (within Brahmā–Nārada dialogue in Cāturmāsya-māhātmya)
Scene: A devotee offers a lit lamp before a Viṣṇu icon; a priest recites a Purāṇic mantra with Vedic cadence; the flame is centered as the ‘gift’ and ‘prayer’ simultaneously.
Lamp-offering (dīpa-dāna) done with devotion and proper recitation is a powerful act that pleases Viṣṇu and destroys sin.
The verse belongs to the Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra-māhātmya stream within Nāgara Khaṇḍa’s Tīrthamāhātmya, framing dīpa-dāna as a sacred-kṣetra practice.
Perform dīpa-pradāna (offering a lamp), using the complete Purāṇic mantra accompanied by Vedic praise.
