अंगानां वर्धनादंबा वीरसूत्वे च वीरसूः । शिशोः शुश्रूषणाच्छ्वश्रूर्माता स्यान्माननात्तथा
aṃgānāṃ vardhanādaṃbā vīrasūtve ca vīrasūḥ | śiśoḥ śuśrūṣaṇācchvaśrūrmātā syānmānanāttathā
अंगांचे पोषण-वर्धन करते म्हणून ती ‘अंबा’ आणि वीरांना जन्म देते म्हणून ‘वीरसू’ म्हणतात. शिशूची सेवा केल्याने सासूही ‘माता’ होते; तसेच स्त्रीचा मान केल्याने ती मातेसमान मानली जाते.
