Suta Goswami (narrating the dialogue of the episode within Śatarudrasaṃhitā)
Tattva Level: pasha
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga passage; it is a narrative line expressing withdrawal from unfit discourse.
Significance: Didactic warning: saṅga with avidyā (ignorance) reinforces pāśa; the aspirant should seek satsanga and avoid fruitless disputation that hardens bondage.
It teaches viveka (discernment) and satsanga: a seeker should withdraw from environments and conversations that strengthen ignorance, because such contact obstructs devotion and inner steadiness on the path to Shiva.
Linga-worship emphasizes purity of mind, humility, and devotion; this verse supports that discipline by advising the devotee to avoid fruitless argument and degrading company, and to turn instead toward uplifting remembrance and worship of Saguna Shiva.
A practical takeaway is to replace unwholesome talk with japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), quiet meditation, and devotional recitation—choosing satsanga and sacred speech over debate.
