The verse highlights the fragility of merely external, karma-based ritual effort: even a sacrifice can be thwarted. In Shaiva Siddhanta, such events point the seeker toward Pati (Shiva) as the true giver of grace and liberation, beyond mechanical performance.
When ritual arrangements fail, the Purana’s broader Shaiva message is to take shelter in Saguna Shiva—especially through Linga worship—which is accessible, grace-centered, and not dependent on the success of complex sacrificial procedures.
A practical takeaway is to prioritize Shiva-bhakti: japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple Linga-puja with bhasma (Tripuṇḍra) as a steadier path than relying solely on elaborate yajñas.
