The Slaying of Atikāya
अथातिकायःकुपितोदृष्टवालक्ष्मणमुत्थितम् ।आदायनिशितंबाणमिदंवचनमब्रवीत् ।।।।
athātikāyaḥ kupito dṛṣṭvā lakṣmaṇam utthitam | ādāya niśitaṃ bāṇam idaṃ vacanam abravīt ||
मग लक्ष्मण उठून समोर येताना पाहून अतिकाय क्रुद्ध झाला; त्याने धारदार बाण उचलून हे वचन उच्चारले।
Seeing Atikaya, furious Lakshmana sprang up and took a sharp shaft and spoke as follows.
It highlights the moral tension between anger-driven action and duty-driven action; dharma requires mastery over wrath, especially in war where words and weapons escalate quickly.
Atikāya prepares to fight Lakṣmaṇa; he arms himself and begins a taunting speech.
Lakṣmaṇa’s readiness to stand and face danger; by contrast, Atikāya’s anger is presented as the motive force for his speech.
