Kāma and Indra’s Attempt to Shatter Chastity; the ‘Abode of Satya’ and the Ethics of the Virtuous Home

Narrator (third-person description within the Purāṇic narration; specific interlocutors not explicit in this verse alone)

Concept: Auspicious signs confirm dharma’s protection; virtue (guṇa) and dharma-jñāna in a person make reunion and harmony ‘fit’ within cosmic order.

Application: Cultivate character (guṇa) and dharma-knowledge; let hope be grounded in virtue rather than mere wish, and read life’s ‘omens’ as prompts for gratitude and steadiness.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shringara

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"At the doorway, the omen-bird perches on a branch, its posture alert as if delivering fate’s message. Sukalā’s face blossoms into sudden joy, and in the distance her dharma-knowing beloved approaches—dust of travel glowing like incense in the air, turning the moment into a living benediction.","primary_figures":["Sukalā","Her husband (dharma-jña, guṇavān kānta)","Omen-bird (śakuna)"],"setting":"village threshold with flowering tree, path leading from afar, household courtyard poised for welcome","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["lotus pink","saffron gold","peacock blue","fresh jasmine white","earth brown"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: dramatic reunion tableau at the threshold, Sukalā with uplifted hands and radiant face, husband approaching with dignified posture, omen-bird on a flowering branch above, gold leaf used for the aura of auspiciousness and dust-glow on the path, rich reds/greens with ornate jewelry and patterned textiles, traditional auspicious doorway motifs.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: lyrical landscape with a winding path, delicate tree with perched bird, Sukalā in graceful stance at the doorway, husband small in the distance yet clearly approaching, cool refined palette with pink-gold highlights, fine brushwork capturing sudden joy and gentle breeze.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, stylized bird as a clear symbol, Sukalā’s widened joyful eyes, husband framed by a radiant arch-like aura, warm yellow-red background with green accents, temple-wall aesthetic emphasizing auspicious fulfillment.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central vignette of Sukalā at the threshold, border filled with lotus and floral motifs, a symbolic bird medallion above, deep blue ground with gold and pink detailing, celebratory yet devotional mood, intricate patterns suggesting ‘sumangala’."}

FAQs

It functions as an auspicious sign: the bird’s indication is treated as a trustworthy foretelling that the beloved’s arrival is imminent or has occurred.

He is described as dharma-jña (knower of righteousness) and sa-guṇa (possessing virtues), emphasizing moral and exemplary character rather than mere appearance.

Auspicious speech and righteous character are portrayed as joy-giving and trustworthy; the verse links inner virtue (dharma, guṇa) with the fulfillment of hopeful signs.
