यथा मार्गं तृणै रुद्धं पद्मं पत्रविवर्जितम् । ज्ञानं ममत्वसंयुक्तं पुमांसं प्रकृतिं विना ॥ २२ ॥
yathā mārgaṃ tṛṇai ruddhaṃ padmaṃ patravivarjitam | jñānaṃ mamatvasaṃyuktaṃ pumāṃsaṃ prakṛtiṃ vinā || 22 ||
जसा तृणांनी अडलेला मार्ग दुर्गम होतो आणि पानांविना कमळ शोभाहीन होते, तसा ‘माझेपणा’ जोडलेले ज्ञान, प्रकृती-तत्त्वाविना पुरुषाला मार्ग दाखवत नाही।

It teaches that knowledge becomes spiritually unproductive when mixed with mamatva (the possessive ego). Like an overgrown path, such “knowledge” cannot carry the seeker toward liberation unless one gains clear discernment and detachment regarding Prakṛti.
Bhakti matures through surrender and non-possessiveness. The verse warns that even spiritual learning is weakened when one clings to “I” and “mine”; devotion becomes pure when actions and insights are offered without ownership.
No specific Vedāṅga technique (Śikṣā, Vyākaraṇa, Jyotiṣa, Kalpa, etc.) is taught in this verse; the practical takeaway is sādhana-oriented—cultivating viveka and vairāgya so that learning does not turn into egoic attachment.
