The Greatness of Kārtika
तस्निन्हरि दिनं पुण्यं तथा वै भीष्मपंचकम् । प्रबोधिनीं नरः कृत्वा जागरेण समन्विताम् ॥ ४९ ॥
tasninhari dinaṃ puṇyaṃ tathā vai bhīṣmapaṃcakam | prabodhinīṃ naraḥ kṛtvā jāgareṇa samanvitām || 49 ||
त्यात हरिदिन पवित्र आहे आणि भीष्मपंचकही निश्चयच पुण्यकारक आहे। प्रबोधिनी विधी करून मनुष्याने त्यासह रात्रिजागरण करावे।
Narada
Vrata: Bhīṣma-pañcaka; Prabodhinī-vrata (Prabodhinī rite)
Rasa: {"primary_rasa":"bhakti","secondary_rasa":"shanta","emotional_journey":"Reverent calendrical sanctity: it identifies holy days/periods (Hari’s day, Bhīṣma-pañcaka, Prabodhinī) and culminates in the active practice of night-long vigil."}
It declares Hari’s sacred day and the Bhīṣma-pañcaka as highly meritorious and prescribes Prabodhinī worship joined with night-long vigil, emphasizing devotion through disciplined observance.
Bhakti is expressed here as active worship—observing Prabodhinī (Hari’s awakening) and staying awake in remembrance—showing that loving devotion is strengthened by vrata and continuous mindful attention to Viṣṇu.
The practical takeaway is ritual discipline and calendrical observance (proper timing of vrata days like Prabodhinī/Ekādaśī and the Bhīṣmapañcaka), aligning practice with dharmic rules of worship and vrata-vidhi.
