FAQs

It declares that purification (pāvana) comes from living according to Śruti- and Smṛti-based dharma; neglecting it is self-harm (ātma-vidhātṛtva) and leads one into the front rank of pāpa.

Bhakti in the Purāṇic sense is not mere emotion; it is supported by scriptural conduct. By insisting on Śruti–Smṛti dharma as the means of purification, the verse frames devotion as disciplined, dharma-aligned living that safeguards the soul’s progress.

The verse points to scriptural authority and correct application of injunctions—an applied foundation for disciplines like Kalpa (ritual procedure and dharma rules) and related Smṛti-based conduct, which function as practical tools for purification.
