Ekādaśī Vrata-Vidhi and the Galava–Bhadrashīla Itihāsa
Dharmakīrti before Yama
सनक उवाच । इदमन्यत्प्रवक्ष्यामि व्रतं त्रैलोक्यविश्रुतम् । सर्वपापप्रशमनं सर्वकामफलप्रदम् ॥ १ ॥
sanaka uvāca | idamanyatpravakṣyāmi vrataṃ trailokyaviśrutam | sarvapāpapraśamanaṃ sarvakāmaphalapradam || 1 ||
सनक म्हणाले: आता मी दुसरे व्रत सांगतो, जे त्रैलोक्यात प्रसिद्ध आहे; ते सर्व पाप शमवते आणि सर्व धर्म्य कामनांचे फळ देते।
Sanaka
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It introduces a universally renowned vrata whose core spiritual promise is twofold: purification from sin (pāpa-kṣaya) and attainment of meritorious results (phala-prāpti), framing ritual observance as a means of inner cleansing and dharmic fulfillment.
While bhakti is not named here, the verse sets the bhakti-friendly Purāṇic pattern where disciplined sacred observance (vrata) becomes a vehicle for purity and grace, preparing the practitioner for devotion-centered living and worship.
The verse signals a ritual framework (kalpa-oriented practice) by announcing a vrata and its phala; it points to applied dharma/ritual procedure rather than technical exposition of vyākaraṇa or jyotiṣa in this single śloka.
