देव्युवाच एवमेतद् बली शुम्भो निशुम्भश्चातिवीर्यवान् ।
किं करोमि प्रतिज्ञा मे यदनालोचिता पुरा ॥
devyuvāca evam etad balī śumbho niśumbhaś cātivīryavān | kiṃ karomi pratijñā me yadanālocitā purā ||
देवी म्हणाली—होय, तसेच आहे; शुंभ बलवान आहे आणि निशुंभ अत्यंत पराक्रमी आहे. मी काय करू? पूर्वी मी विचार न करता एक व्रत-संकल्प केला होता.
