Adhyaya 44 — Subahu’s Counsel to the King of Kashi and Alarka’s Renunciation through Yoga
इति श्रीमार्कण्डेयपुराणे अरिष्टकथनं नाम त्रिचत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः ।
चतुःचत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः ।
सुबाहुरुवाच—
यदर्थं नृपशार्दूल ! त्वामहं शरणं गतः ।
तन्मया सकलं प्राप्तं यास्यामि त्वं सुखी भव ॥
iti śrīmārkaṇḍeya-purāṇe ariṣṭa-kathanaṃ nāma tricātvāriṃśo 'dhyāyaḥ |
catuḥcātvāriṃśo 'dhyāyaḥ |
subāhur uvāca—
yad-arthaṃ nṛpaśārdūla tvām ahaṃ śaraṇaṃ gataḥ |
tan mayā sakalaṃ prāptaṃ yāsyāmi tvaṃ sukhī bhava ||
श्री मार्कंडेयपुराणातील ‘अरिष्टवृत्तांत’ नावाचा त्रेचाळीसावा अध्याय असा समाप्त झाला. आता चव्वेचाळीसावा अध्याय आरंभ होतो. सुभाहू म्हणाला—हे राजसिंह! ज्या हेतूने मी तुमच्या शरण आलो होतो तो सर्व हेतू मला सिद्ध झाला. मी जातो; तुम्ही सुखी रहा.

Refuge is purposeful: once the need is resolved (externally and inwardly), one should depart without clinging, offering goodwill rather than demanding reward.
