Adhyaya 37 — Alarka’s Crisis and the Teaching on Non-Attachment (Madālasa’s Instruction Recalled)
दुष्टैषु दण्डं शिष्टेषु सम्यक्च परिपालनम् ।
कुर्वन् परां मुदं लेभे इयाज च महामखैः ॥
duṣṭaiṣu daṇḍaṃ śiṣṭeṣu samyak ca paripālanam | kurvan parāṃ mudaṃ lebhe iyāja ca mahāmakhaiḥ
त्याने दुष्टांना दंड दिला आणि सुशीलांचे योग्य रक्षण केले; असे करून त्याला महान आनंद प्राप्त झाला आणि भव्य विधींनी यज्ञ केले।

The king’s dharma is twofold: restraint of harm through punishment and nurturing of virtue through protection; public order and ritual prosperity are shown as mutually reinforcing.
Vaṃśānucarita: royal conduct and its outcomes; secondarily reflects dharma and ritual culture rather than sarga/manvantara.
Daṇḍa and yajña can be read symbolically as inner disciplines: cutting down vice (daṇḍa) and offering egoic tendencies into the ‘fire’ of discernment (yajña).
