Purity norms are adapted to practicality: sprinkling suffices where washing may be difficult (bundled cloth, stores), while rough materials (bark garments) call for earth-and-water cleansing.
Not pañcalakṣaṇa; it is prescriptive ācāra content.
Earth-and-water cleansing reflects grounding and clarity: ‘earth’ stabilizes (removes grime/adhesion), ‘water’ flows (removes stain), together symbolizing steadiness and purification of life-practices.
