Aditi’s Payo-vrata and Viṣṇu’s Promise to Appear as Her Son
Prelude to Vāmana
sotthāya baddhāñjalir īḍituṁ sthitā notseha ānanda-jalākulekṣaṇā babhūva tūṣṇīṁ pulakākulākṛtis tad-darśanātyutsava-gātra-vepathuḥ
This verse describes classic bhakti symptoms—tears of joy, horripilation, trembling, and speechlessness—arising naturally when a devotee beholds the Lord.
Overwhelmed by bliss upon seeing the Lord, Aditi could not compose herself to speak; her devotion expressed itself through tears, trembling, and standing with folded hands.
Approach prayer with sincerity and humility; even when words fail, reverence—like folded hands, remembrance, and heartfelt emotion—can be genuine worship.
