FAQs

It imparts technical lexicographic knowledge: precise Sanskrit terms and near-synonyms for different kinds of settlements (purī/nagarī, pāṭṭana, sthānīya, nigama, puram) used in administration and literature.

By cataloging administrative and urban terminology, it functions like a reference manual—showing the Purana’s coverage beyond mythology into governance, civic classification, and scholarly language usage.

Its value is primarily śāstric rather than ritual: correct terminology supports accurate transmission of dharma, law, and civic duties; clarity in speech and writing is treated as a form of intellectual discipline aligned with dharmic order.
