इत्तम्भूतो महानग्निर्ब्रह्मक्रोधोद्भवो महान् । उवाच देवं ब्रह्माणं तिथिर्मे दीयतां विभो । यस्यामहं समस्तस्य जगतः ख्यातिमाप्नुयाम् ॥ १९.२ ॥

itthambhūto mahān agnir brahma-krodhodbhavo mahān | uvāca devaṁ brahmāṇaṁ tithir me dīyatāṁ vibho | yasyāmahaṁ samastasya jagataḥ khyātim āpnuyām || 19.2 ||

ഇങ്ങനെ മഹാനായ അഗ്നി—ബ്രഹ്മാവിന്റെ ക്രോധത്തിൽ നിന്നു ജനിച്ച മഹാബലവാൻ—ദേവബ്രഹ്മാവിനോട് പറഞ്ഞു: ഹേ വിഭോ, എനിക്ക് ഒരു തിഥി ദാനം ചെയ്യുക; അതിലൂടെ ഞാൻ സർവ്വലോകത്തും ഖ്യാതി പ്രാപിക്കട്ടെ.
