It situates a deva-conflict narrative within a named cultural landscape (Bhārata-varṣa) and near Vārāṇasī, illustrating how Purāṇic texts anchor mythic events to recognized heritage geography.
Vārāṇasī (often identified with Kāśī/modern Varanasi). The verse specifies a position “to the east” (pūrvataḥ) of Vārāṇasī, indicating a directional sacred-geographical framing rather than a precise cartographic coordinate.
The verse emphasizes strategic refuge and alliance-building after defeat (āśritya saṃsthitaḥ … saha), presenting a pragmatic principle of resilience and collective support rather than a prescriptive moral command.
