Ritual Procedure for the Donation of the ‘Sugar-Cow’ (Śarkarā-Dhenu)

होतोवाच तद्वच्च शर्कराधेनुं शृणु राजन् यथार्थतः । अनुलिप्ते महीपृष्ठे कृष्णाजिनकुशोत्तरे ॥ १०३-१ ॥ धेनुं शर्करया राजन् कृत्वा भारचतुष्टयम् । उत्तमा कथ्यते सद्भिश्चतुर्थांशेन वत्सकम् ॥

hotovāca tadvac ca śarkarā-dhenuṃ śṛṇu rājan yathārthataḥ | anulipte mahī-pṛṣṭhe kṛṣṇājina-kuśottare || 103-1 || dhenuṃ śarkarayā rājan kṛtvā bhāra-catuṣṭayam | uttamā kathyate sadbhiś caturthāṃśena vatsakam ||

ഹോതൃ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ രാജാവേ, അതുപോലെ ശർക്കരാധേനം, അഥവാ പഞ്ചസാരകൊണ്ട് നിർമ്മിക്കുന്ന ഗാവിന്റെ വിധി യഥാർത്ഥമായി കേൾക്കുക. ലേപിച്ച ഭൂമിത്തട്ടിൽ, മുകളിൽ കൃഷ്ണാജിനവും കുശയും വിരിച്ച്, ഹേ രാജാവേ, ശർക്കരകൊണ്ട് നാല് ഭാര ഭാരമുള്ള ധേനുവിനെ നിർമ്മിക്കണം; സദ്ജനങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നതുപോലെ, കിടാവ് നാലിലൊരുഭാഗം ആണെങ്കിൽ അതാണ് ‘ഉത്തമം’।
