Verse 31

Yogatattva

प्रथमाभ्यासकाले तु विघ्नाः स्युः चतुरानन । आलस्यं कत्थनं धूर्तगोष्ठी मन्त्रादिसाधनम् ॥ धातुस्त्रीलौल्यकादीनि मृगतृष्णामयानि वै । ज्ञात्वा सुधीस्त्यजेत् सर्वान् विघ्नान् पुण्यप्रभावतः ॥३०–३१॥

प्रथम-अभ्यास-काले । तु । विघ्नाः । स्युः । चतुरानन । आलस्यम् । कत्थनम् । धूर्त-गोष्ठी । मन्त्र-आदि-साधनम् । धातु । स्त्री-लौल्यक-आदीनि । मृग-तृष्णा-मयानि । वै । ज्ञात्वा । सु-धीः । त्यजेत् । सर्वान् । विघ्नान् । पुण्य-प्रभावतः ।

prathamābhyāsakāle tu vighnāḥ syuḥ caturānana | ālasyam katthanaṃ dhūrtagoṣṭhī mantrādisādhanam || dhātu strīlaulyakādīni mṛgatṛṣṇāmayāni vai | jñātvā sudhīs tyajet sarvān vighnān puṇyaprabhāvataḥ ||30–31||

ഹേ ചതുരാനന ബ്രഹ്മാ! പ്രാരംഭ അഭ്യാസകാലത്ത് വിഘ്നങ്ങൾ ഉദിക്കുന്നു—ആലസ്യം, അഹങ്കാരപരമായ വാക്കുകൾ, ധൂർത്തരുടെ കൂട്ടുകെട്ട്, മന്ത്രാദി ഉപായങ്ങളുടെ പിന്നാലെ ഓടൽ; കൂടാതെ ധാതു-രസായനാദികളിലേക്കുള്ള ആസക്തിയും സ്ത്രീലോല്യവും—ഇവയൊക്കെയും മൃഗതൃഷ്ണാസ്വഭാവമുള്ളവയാണ്. ഇത് അറിഞ്ഞ്, പുണ്യത്തിന്റെ പ്രഭാവത്താൽ വിവേകി സാധകൻ എല്ലാ വിഘ്നങ്ങളും ഉപേക്ഷിക്കണം.

But at the time of initial practice, obstacles arise, O Four-faced (Brahmā): laziness, boastful talk, the company of rogues, and the pursuit of means such as mantras and the like; (also) pursuits such as alchemical substances and infatuation with women—indeed, all are of the nature of a mirage. Having understood (this), the wise person should abandon all obstacles, through the power of merit (puṇya).
