वायुः प्राणस्तथाकाशस्त्रिविधो जीवसंज्ञकः । स जीवः प्राण इत्युक्तो वालाग्रशतकल्पितः ॥१४॥

IAST Transliteration

vāyuḥ prāṇas tathākāśas trividho jīvasaṃjñakaḥ | sa jīvaḥ prāṇa ity ukto valāgraśatakalpitaḥ ||14||

Translation

വായു, പ്രാണൻ, ആകാശം—ഈ ത്രിവിധം ‘ജീവ’ എന്ന സംജ്ഞയാൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ആ ജീവൻ പ്രാണൻ എന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്നു; അത് രോമാഗ്രത്തിന്റെ നൂറിലൊന്നിനോളം സൂക്ഷ്മമെന്നു കല്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

Academic Translation

Air, prāṇa, and space—this triad is designated as the jīva. That jīva is said to be prāṇa, conceived as (subtle as) one-hundredth of the tip of a hair.
