ईश्वर उवाच । ब्राह्मी तु मंगला प्रोक्ता विशालाक्षी तु वैष्णवी । रौद्रीशक्तिः समाख्याता देवी सा चत्वरप्रिया
īśvara uvāca | brāhmī tu maṃgalā proktā viśālākṣī tu vaiṣṇavī | raudrīśaktiḥ samākhyātā devī sā catvarapriyā
ഈശ്വരൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ബ്രാഹ്മീ ശക്തിരൂപത്തിൽ അവൾ ‘മംഗളാ’ എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു; വൈഷ്ണവീ ശക്തിരൂപത്തിൽ ‘വിശാലാക്ഷി’ എന്നു പ്രസിദ്ധയാണ്. അവൾ ‘റൗദ്രീ-ശക്തി’ എന്നും ഖ്യാത, പവിത്ര ചത്വരം (ചൗമുക്ക്) പ്രിയമുള്ള ദേവി.
