ईश्वर उवाच । पुरा बभूव राजर्षिर्दिलीप इति विश्रुतः । दीर्घो नाम सुतस्तस्य रघुस्तस्मादजायत
īśvara uvāca | purā babhūva rājarṣirdilīpa iti viśrutaḥ | dīrgho nāma sutastasya raghustasmādajāyata
ഈശ്വരൻ പറഞ്ഞു—പുരാതനകാലത്ത് ‘ദിലീപ’ എന്ന പ്രസിദ്ധനായ രാജർഷി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അവന്റെ പുത്രന്റെ പേര് ‘ദീർഘ’; അവനിൽ നിന്നാണ് രഘു ജനിച്ചത്.
