ईश्वर उवाच । आसीत्पुरा महीपालो बृहद्रथ इति श्रुतः । तस्य भार्याऽभवत्साध्वी नाम्ना चेंदुमती प्रिया
īśvara uvāca | āsītpurā mahīpālo bṛhadratha iti śrutaḥ | tasya bhāryā'bhavatsādhvī nāmnā ceṃdumatī priyā
ഈശ്വരൻ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു—പുരാതനകാലത്ത് ബൃഹദ്രഥൻ എന്ന പ്രസിദ്ധനായ മഹീപാലൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അവന്റെ പ്രിയഭാര്യ ഇന്ദുമതി എന്ന പേരുള്ള സാദ്വി, പതിവ്രതയായിരുന്നു.
