ईश्वर उवाच । शृणु त्वं यत्पुरावृत्तं देवि स्वारोचिषेंतरे । आसीत्कश्चिद्दुराचारः कैवर्तो मत्स्यघातकः
īśvara uvāca | śṛṇu tvaṃ yatpurāvṛttaṃ devi svārociṣeṃtare | āsītkaściddurācāraḥ kaivarto matsyaghātakaḥ
ഈശ്വരൻ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു—ഹേ ദേവി, സ്വാരോചിഷ മന്വന്തരത്തിൽ പണ്ടു സംഭവിച്ച വൃത്താന്തം കേൾക്കുക. അപ്പോൾ ദുഷ്ടാചാരിയായ ഒരു കൈവർത്തൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവൻ മത്സ്യങ്ങളെ കൊല്ലുന്നവൻ ആയിരുന്നു.
